Star Trek is big news again thanks to the awesome new film that starts the Star Trek universe over again from the beginning. We covered some of the merchandise in a previous Star Trek article, so this time we'll be looking a little closer at the 12 inch dolls that have been released thus far for the movie.

The first wave of 12 inch Star Trek figures includes Kirk, Spock, classic Spock and McCoy. The likenesses of these figures to the actors they are based on leave something to be desired, with the classic Spock figure looking the best of the bunch.

Made by Playmates, the figures are sturdy and well made, with movie-authentic fabric costumes that look great even though they aren't quite as slick as their onscreen counterparts.

Each articulated figure in the set comes supplied with a Star Trek emblem display base and accessories- phasers and tricorders for Kirk, Spock and McCoy, and an alternate hand for classic Spock, enabling him to give the famous Vulcan salute.

Packed in very attractive Star Trek movie themed window display boxes, these figures aren’t perfect, but they are excellent examples of the Star Trek merchandise that is currently on offer for the new film.
